City of Olathe Open House

Each spring and fall, the City of Olathe puts on an Open House for the BSA, hosted by Olathe Mayor Michael Copeland. This year that spring event will take place on Thursday, April 30 at 6:30 p.m. at the Olathe City Hall, 100 E Santa Fe. This is a great opportunity for youth in all our programs, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Venturing, to learn about local government from an expert in the field of local government.

Proposed HOAC District Realignment Plan

This email was sent out by Cortland Bolles, RTH District Director late 4/7/2015. Feel free to pass the information on to leaders that may not have received it via email.

At the April Roundtable, the District Key 4 Leadership (Dan Kerling, District Chair; Stan Lloyd, District Commissioner; Cortland Bolles, District Director; Elisa Corry, District Executive), announced the presentation of a PROPOSED Heart of America Council District Realignment Plan.
The specifics to this plan are included in the attached link titled “Redistrict Proposal to Executive Committee.” We would encourage you to review the attached document for your information, and, if you have further questions or concerns to please attend one of the four upcoming Fireside Chats to learn more about the proposal from those involved in the development of this proposal.

An FAQ, titled “2015 HOAC District Realignment Proposal Information,” will continue to be added to as the Fireside Chats proceed.

As Red-Tailed Hawk District we will maintain our commitment to the programs and campaigns we have started planning or are in the process of executing so that our youth members and each of you as unit leaders continue to get the best Scouting program possible. In Red-Tailed Hawk, we will be doing Cub Scout Spring Recruitment and Day Camp and School Night and Popcorn and Trainings and Camporee and Roundtables and all the other events and activities that we already have planned for the remainder of the calendar year as is.

If this proposal is passed, changes will not take effect until January 1, 2016. And for unit operations, the biggest changes may be where you go to Roundtable and who your Unit Commissioner is. Please do not let this distract you from doing what you do best, regardless of the district that your unit is part of: delivering a fun and exciting program to the youth in your Dens, Packs, Troops, Teams and Crews! If you do that, the leaders of the Red-Tailed Hawk District will remain focused on supporting successful units resulting in increasingly more youth receiving a continually better program!

This is being sent to all unit leaders for which we have an email address in ScoutNet. Please note that some of the addresses may not be working any longer, may have been transposed incorrectly during data entry, are limited by email size allowances, or some other reason that may cause this not to go to everyone in your unit. We may have never been provided an email address for leaders within your unit as well. As such, I would encourage you to feel free to forward this within your unit email lists with whatever discretion you believe best fits your unit leadership and parents.
Because of the limit in email addresses the BSA system allows to be on one email, this is going out to three different groups of email addresses of approximately 465 people each under blind carbon copy

The Community Day of Service will be Saturday, April 11, 2015. The rain date is set for April 25, 2015 in case of bad weather.

Sign-ups are not on-line. Please contact Kristi Ogle, Activities Chair, directly to sign up your Troop, Pack, Crew, or Team. Please indicate your unit number, project number(s), Unit Coordinator name, Unit Coordinator cell phone number, and Unit Coordinator email address.

District Pinewood Derby – March 28

A Boy Scout Troop has graciously volunteered to run the Pinewood Derby and one of our Venturing Crews will be helping them out!

Derby Rules and Registration will be available as soon as the organizers are able to meet to plan out the event.  To provide the needed planning and promotion time, the Derby has been pushed back two weeks to Saturday, March 28.  The Derby will begin at 1:00 p.m. and will be held at the Kansas City Automotive Museum, 15095 W 116th Pl, Olathe.
